War Dog Movies

Hey everyone!
This week we’re going to touch base on movies and TV shows that involve the military. We’ll start off with a movie I just watched because it was recommended by a couple of my Marine brothers. Triple Frontier on Netflix is about Veterans stealing a butt load of money from the cartel. The movie is action packed the whole way through and the story is fun and easy to follow. There are scenes involving death, but it leans toward the cinematic rather than gut-wrenching brutality.

Elise Wigle - The Artist and The Vet

Many of us who are old enough can remember where we were on 9/11. Elise Wigle was in her sophomore year of Art School at Carnegie Mellon University. Like so many of our brothers and sisters, Elise decided to take action. She dropped out of University to join the fight as a Heavy Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic in the Army. Her brother, Roger Wigle, had already enlisted in the Marine Corps and that guided Elise’s decision to join. They would serve at the same time and eventually deploy overseas simultaneously. This was super stressful for their parents.

BP2 - Our Newest Public Art Project

Operation Valor Arts launched it newest public art project on Thursday, February 28 at the Forest Hills Veteran Housing facility. The recently rehabbed structure is owned by ACTION-Housing. The new Veteran Design Team includes 10 Veterans; four of whom are Forest Hills residents and the rest are mentors and Veteran community supporters.

OVArts Veteran Design Team member, LTC Consuellos Hodges, was honored at the 25th Annual Tribute to Veterans at Station Square on May 28, 2018.  The event was sponsored by Veteran Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania.   Destiny Hodges, daughter of LTC Hodges, provided community support to the Operation Valor Arts McGarity Army Reserve Center Project

1st Annual OVArts Golf Outing and Dinner

The 1st Annual OVArts Golf Outing and Dinner was held at Shannopin Country Club on Sept. 23, 2018.   Proceeds of the fundraiser are being used to support the OVArts McGarity Army Reserve Project in Moon, PA.  This project is inspired by the lives and service of SGT Thomas Vandling Jr. who lost his life in Iraq in 2007 and WW II Medal of Honor winner, T/SGT Vernon McGarity.

OV Arts Newest Projects

Forest Hills Veteran Housing Grand Opening took place on on Monday, November 19, 2018.  OVArts Board Vice-Presiden,Dan Fisher, outlined the work of Operation Valor Arts to design and construct a piece of public art for the facility.   A new Veteran Design Team is being assemble for the project which begins in 2019.
